Each fashion capital has a men’s week dedicated to fashion;
except for New York! With this week being New York Fashion Week, it poses the
question as to when the men of New York will be able to join in and participate
in their own fashion week. The CFDA is now in talks of bringing this idea to
fruition. Even though some designers do in fact include menswear in their
womenswear shows and vice versa, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to do this
considering the editors and buyers at those shows are more focused on the
particular gender they came to see (fashionista.com).
Men these days seem overall more involved in their personal
appearance, especially fashion wise. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising to
see a men’s fashion week in New York sometime soon. The CFDA has been meeting
with menswear editors and PR firms recently to try and make this a reality
(fashionista.com). Already there have been a few men’s shows during this NYFW
(N. Hoolywood, Duckie Brown, Todd Snyder, and DKNY), but it would make more
sense logistically speaking to have their own segregated week. With huge
magazines such as GQ and Details, covering men’s fashions exclusively, I’m sure
they will be a huge push towards making this happen.
